How TWICE Was Formed

TWICE was created through the 2015 Mnet survival show "Sixteen", where sixteen JYP trainees competed for spots in a new girl group. Originally, JYP planned to debut a seven-member group, but was so impressed by the contestants that nine members were ultimately selected.

The group's name "TWICE" was chosen by JYP himself, meaning the group would touch people's hearts "once through the ears and once through the eyes" — through both their music and their performances.

Their multinational lineup is one of their defining features: five Korean members (Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo, Dahyun, Chaeyoung), three Japanese members (Momo, Sana, Mina), and one Taiwanese member (Tzuyu).

What Does ONCE Mean?

TWICE's fandom name ONCE was officially announced on November 7, 2015. The meaning is that if TWICE and ONCE come together, we make three — a symbol of their unbreakable bond. ONCE will always be there for TWICE, supporting them through everything.

The official lightstick is called "Candybong", a candy-shaped lightstick that lights up in the fan colors of Apricot and Neon Magenta. It's one of the most beloved lightsticks in all of K-pop!
